Art Galleries

Embark on an arts adventure! Minneapolis Northwest is mere minutes from the thriving arts scene in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, home to the largest open studio tour in the country, Art-A-Whirl. This event featuring the works of more than 1,000 artists, takes place annually, the third weekend of May, and is free and open to the public.

Paintings, textiles, jewelry, pottery and collages, are just a few of the unique types of art you can explore at artist studios spread out across 25 studio buildings and art galleries. Stop by during open studio times to watch artist demonstrations, mini workshops, installations, and special exhibitions. Studio tours offer a great opportunity to ask questions, discuss techniques, experience art first-hand, and purchase unique artwork directly from the artists.

Minneapolis Northwest is also home to the Maple Grove Arts Center, which provides fine art, musical and theatrical exploration and appreciation opportunities at its fine arts gallery, along with classes and workshops. For an artistic adventure for the kids or an artsy girls night out, head to Color Me Mine at The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes to decorate projects from plates to mugs and vases to cookie jars and everything in between! And don’t forget to mark your calendar for the spectacular and breathtaking Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes, a two-day street art festival that brings artists together from around the world each June!
