Second Harvest Heartland North

Second Harvest Heartland is one of the nation’s largest, most effective and most innovative hunger relief organizations. The organization believes no one should go hungry, especially in the heartland where more than enough food for everyone is produced.

In 2019, the organization opened a state-of-the-art, 233,000-square foot facility in Brooklyn Park that features innovative equipment, updated food storage facilities, and a 24,000-square foot Volunteer Center for volunteers and groups. The bigger and better-equipped hunger relief facility means many more fresh, nutritious meals go out into the community.

The Volunteer Center accommodates 100 volunteers at a time and showcases an impressive number of features. Two classrooms are available for groups and meetings. The rooms are separate by an air wall, which can be removed to create 2,126-square feet of meeting space. Cargill Community Engagement Room 1 has a 140-person capacity, dependent on room set-up; Cargill Community Engagement Room 2 has a 130-person capacity, also dependent on room set-up. The rooms include the latest in audio/video capabilities with speakers and microphones, projectors and screens, phone and video conferencing capabilities, and free guest WiFi.

The Volunteer Center also features a catering kitchen perfect for your favorite caterer and ample parking for 350 people. Your group can hold a meeting in the morning, have lunch catered in and then pack food in the afternoon. And volunteers and groups aren’t just packing food at Second Harvest Heartland. Together, they're fueling a stronger, healthier future where everyone is fed. If you’re looking to make a change to your next group outing or special event, consider the impact you can make by volunteering with your coworkers, or your family and friends.

Fighting hunger in the Midwest for more than three decades, Second Harvest Heartland works closely with partnering food shelves, food pantries and other meal programs, and it advocates for programs and policies that supports families. Come check out the newly designed facility and enjoy a fresh and modern space where everyone can join together in the fight against hunger.
