Brick & Bourbon
Brick & Bourbon, the can’t-miss craft restaurant and bar in Maple Grove, adds a unique touch to Minneapolis Northwest’s impressive dining scene. Located on Elm Creek Boulevard a few blocks northwest of The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, Brick & Bourbon exudes a cool, industrial-chic atmosphere with its cavernous ceiling, impressive wood-working details and bourbon barrels throughout. The center bar creates a communal area to congregate around, and 30 draft beers are poured via a custom-made tap. Seating ranges from high and low top tables, to cushy red leather booths and a massive wood table that’s perfect for groups. An expansive patio (opening soon) will seat an additional 200 diners.
The atmosphere and menu are expertly crafted by owners Adam Dreher, Gary Sivyer and Brandon Warner, and designed to blend classic and modern styles and flavors. Think of all your favorite comfort foods – juicy burgers, tasty sandwiches, gooey mac & cheese – and turn them upside down. That’s Brick & Bourbon. The portions are large and hearty, and everything is made with fresh, local ingredients, and grass-fed and organic meats. Browse the shareable fare, wings, salads and soups, followed by cast-iron burgers, sandwiches and sliders, then sausages, entrees and mac & cheeses. There are so many enticing choices that you’ll be planning your next trip before you’ve finished your first meal!
Start with the Duck Bacon Wontons, Firecracker Shrimp or go full Minnesotan with the shareable Tater Tot Hot Dish. Then browse the precisely grilled burgers. We recommend The Next Day burger – a hand-crafted patty atop crispy hash browns, topped with herbed cheese, pecan-smoked bacon and an egg over-easy. All this goodness is sandwiched between grilled slices of battered French Vienna bread. (Gluten-free buns are available, too.) A side of fries is traditionally the best compliment to any burger, but don’t rule out some of the other interesting side options available, like the crispy roasted brussels sprouts, which are cut fresh daily and tossed with a house-made buffalo sauce and bleu cheese crumbles.
You’re guaranteed to be tempted by Brick & Bourbon’s outstanding sandwiches and sliders. The Caprese Chicken Sandwich tastes like a summer afternoon with its tender, smoked chicken, fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and balsamic drizzle. The BLT Sliders, Chicken & Waffle Sliders and Monte Cristo Sliders are served on thick and fluffy mini Belgian waffles with extra additions like strawberry jalapeño jam or macadamia bourbon syrup. The BLT sliders even include a slice of fried green tomato and bacon jam aioli. There’s also the Oven Roasted Sirloin Steak Sliders, or the New York New York Sliders served on pretzel slider rolls.
Or you can kick your favorite comfort food up a notch with the selection of artisan mac & cheeses. The St. Louis Rib Mac & Cheese’s mini mountain of always-tender rib meat is piled high on the pasta, and the Black & Bleu Mac & Cheese is made with a blend of bleu and gorgonzola cheeses, finished with seared tenderloin medallions and chipotle bread crumbs.
Delicious entrees include BBQ Whiskey Pork Ribs, Roasted Short Rib Ravioli, Million Dollar Medallions, Spinach & Mushroom Tortellini, and Macadamia Crusted Halibut with a cilantro pineapple relish. If you’re hankering for the feast of all feasts, opt for The Bricklayer’s Usquebaugh & Feast (“Usquebaugh” means whiskey or “water of life” in Gaelic). Comprised of a 48 ounce top choice porterhouse with a bourbon and port wine sauce, rosemary scalloped sweet potatoes, red romaine Caesar salad and your choice of one of Brick & Bourbon’s hand-crafted cocktails, this meal will leave you satisfied for days!
Aside from the notable food offerings, be sure to tackle the fantastic drink menu. The libations here are reminiscent of a bygone era and are, simply, out of this world. Explore the “Bourbon and Whiskey Fun” with all kinds of interesting bourbon and whiskey-based cocktails. Try the You’re My Boy Blue! made with a double oak bourbon, crushed blueberries, fresh lemon juice and agave nectar. And have added fun when you order the Smoking Gun – a Maple Old Fashioned that comes covered by a glass lid and enveloped by mysterious cloud of smoke (spoiler alert: it’s from the dry ice!). Also featured is an excellent selection of flights highlighting American bourbons, rye whiskey, Scotch whiskey, Japanese whiskey and Irish whiskey.
Prepare for a continued onslaught of flavor when you dive into the restaurant’s craft cocktails. Man In A Lady Dress is perhaps the most accurately named drink on the menu. Deep pink and garnished with a stunning slice of dragon fruit, this beverage looks deceptively sweet until you taste the crisp jalapeño kick in the tequila. For something that is indeed sweet, order the Magic Cricket, which is truly magical indeed, tasting like a milkshake with its vodka and Crème de Cacao Liqueur blended with mint ice cream.
A final treat at Brick & Bourbon is its second-floor gaming area. Complete with Air Hockey Galaxy Collision, Power Pong, and good old-fashioned foosball, it’s a great spot to get in a few friendly games. Bring your drink upstairs and take in the colorful view of the crowd below.
When all is said, done and devoured, Brick & Bourbon hits the trifecta for dining out: excellent bar, incredible kitchen and top-notch service. You have every reason to visit this new eatery, whether it’s to enjoy happy hour, have lunch with coworkers or celebrate a special occasion.
