CAPI USA 2nd Annual Unity in Motion 5k

CAPI Fun Run

The Unity in Motion 5K is back! This family-friendly event raises awareness and funds for our immigrant, refugee, and asylee communities in the Twin Cities. Lace up your running/walking/jogging shoes and enter our Miracle Mile, CAPI-bara Crawl (kids 10 and under), and/or the 5k! Put a team together, bring out the family, and let’s support our health and community.

This vibrant, community-focused race celebrates Minnesota’s resilient and diverse communities through the spirit of healthy living. Whether you’re a seasoned runner, casual jogger, or a family looking for a fun outing, this race welcomes all members of the community.

Proceeds from the event will support CAPI’s work providing critical resources to Minnesota’s immigrant and refugee communities, making every step you take contribute to a greater cause. Create your fundraising page and encourage the people in your life to support your race to make a difference!

Twin Cities Gus Macker Tournament

Last year we brought back the storied 50+ year old national 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournament to the Twin Cities area and we raised $37,500 for local non-profits and fielded 160 teams of basketball enthusiasts who loved the outdoor competition, community, entertainment, food and fun. We have an amazing event planned for this August and will roll out more details soon. The most important dates to know is that registration ends on July 14th for the Aug 2nd-3rd tournament so please register soon! 

The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is more than just a game, it’s a full-on celebration of teamwork, community spirit, and hometown pride. Open to players ages 8+ and welcoming all skill levels, this event allows for 3-on-3 teams to hit the courts for a weekend of high-energy hoops. For both the seasoned competitor or those that just love to play, Macker is all about bringing people together for some friendly competition and unforgettable memories.

ENTERTAINMENT IN THE PARK

Centennial Park Brooklyn Center

Brooklyn Center is bringing you one day, two nights of music and two nights of movies. They will be held at the Centennial Park Amphitheater (6301 Shingle Creek Pkwy) and Firehouse Park (6535 N Bryant Ave).

Do not forget your blanket or lawn chair and some bug spray. Some events will have food trucks, crafts, and vendors.

Juneteenth

2025 marks the first time that Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park will jointly come together in celebration of Juneteenth. More details are forth coming, but please mark your calendar!

The 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at North Hennepin Community College (7411 85th Ave N, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445).

HISTORIC EIDEM FARM EVENTS

Travel back in time at Historic Eidem Farm in Brooklyn Park. Bring the whole family to see what it was like living on a farm during the 1890s, get a tour of the grounds from costumed guides, and participate in a craft. On Aug 28th there will be a family friendly Movie on the Barn .

Catering to the adult crowd, Brooklyn Park's Heavy Rotation Brewery will be serving drinks during the September 19th Date Night Movie on the Barn and will be serving cold beer from 4:30-8:00PM on July 25th, August 22nd and September 19th at Happy Hour events. Yard games, live music and food trucks are all included . All events free to attend.

 IGBOFEST FESTIVAL

Summer 2023 Igbofest

Did you know that 1 in 5 residents of Brooklyn Park was born outside of the U.S.? Come celebrate the area's cultural roots at IgboFest. IgboFest showcases cultural activities with a full day of free family fun, drawing more than 5,000 adults and kids to the area. Activities include tasting traditional African dishes and trying your hand at African crafts, enjoying a variety of dance performances and processions, and chances to win raffle prizes.

Saturday, Aug 9, noon-6 p.m. IgboFest is a vibrant outdoor festival and free for the whole family! Sample African food, shop for jewelry, gorgeous African apparel, watch entertaining performances and dance to the music. For more information visit www.umunne.org.
