It’s one of the most common complaints heard by city council members in Brooklyn Park: Why aren’t there more locally owned restaurants?
Actually, there are more than 100 restaurants in Brooklyn Park and many are small and locally owned. The city hopes they can raise awareness of the diverse restaurants Brooklyn Park offers by celebrating the first-ever Restaurant Week September 9-13.
“Brooklyn Park wants to support our independently owned restaurants. Many do not have a budget for fancy commercials or advertising, so the city tries to help with marketing. We want them to grow and stay in the city they love,” said Mayor Jeffery Lunde, in a press release. “There are only five days in the week, so we chose five restaurants that show the breadth of Brooklyn Park’s restaurant scene. However, we plan to spotlight many of our other restaurants in a different way.”
The five different venues featured will be El Rancho Mexican Restaurant, Fat Nat’s Eggs, Milah’s Royal Bistro, Cajun Deli, and Mi-Sant Banh Mi Co. The city will feature the restaurants in stories, social media posts, and videos. Each restaurant will give away a $25 gift card to customers who participate in the city’s social media contests.
Brooklyn Park’s newest restaurant, The Brooklyn at Edinburgh USA, will also get in on the action. They will offer a two-course lunch special for $14 and a special three-course dinner menu for $28.
