Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes
For two days only, talented artists from around the world will pour into Minneapolis Northwest to transform Main Street at Arbor Lakes into one of the largest street art festivals in the Midwest. Grab your family and friends and join the fun! Visit on Saturday as 50 artists begin their artistic process, and come back Sunday to enjoy their finished masterpieces.
Kick Off Summer at Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes!
Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes is back for a fourth year that once again is sure to thrill and delight your senses. Watch supremely talented artists as they progress on their work while enjoying entertainment, food and family fun all around Main Street in Maple Grove. Here is everything you need to know!
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 13th and 14th, artists will create their chalk masterpieces - everything from classic portraits and humorous scenes, to your favorite pop culture characters and whacky 3D creations. Main Street Arbor Lakes will be the "Artist Zone," with spaces blocked off for each artists to work. Both ends of Main Street are transformed into chalking areas for kids and families. Chalk will be provided but you can also bring your own. (Note: If you can't make it during the festival, you can still view the chalk murals until 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 14th.)
Kids Activities at Chalkfest
Kids can look forward to even more activities, such as bean bag toss, hula-hooping and of course, lots of fun photo ops. And you never know who might show up - last year Gnomeo and Juliet made an appearance! Chalkfest also welcomes furry four-legged family members, so feel free to bring your whole crew with you for a fun day in the sun!
Chalkfest People's Choice Award
While you're at Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes, don't forget to vote for the People's Choice Award, which goes to the professional artist who collects the most votes. Voting tickets will be available for purchase on-site June 13-14 at the information desk. Proceeds will go to the winning artist’s prize, as well as help to bring this beloved event back in 2020. Make sure to attend both days to see your favorite chalk pieces completed and cast your votes! In 2018, the People's Choice Award was awarded to Carlos Alberto for his brilliant sea turtle and fish!
Take a look at some of the other wonderful chalk art pieces from 2018 and just imagine what it's like seeing these works of art up close and in personal. Inspiring and engaging for people of all ages, Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes is a summer event not to be missed!
Artists enjoy talking about their work and are happy to converse and answer any questions you have as they finish their projects. Be sure to take lots of photos, because after 5 p.m. on Sunday, everything is washed away by power sprayers!

History of Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes
Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes' Artist-in-Residence Shawn McCann helped start the event in 2016, after years of participating in chalk art festivals around the country. He knew the Twin Cities, with its great appreciation of arts and culture, would be a perfect spot for a large chalk art event. Shawn was one of 14 artists handpicked to participate in the March 2018 Dubai Canvas 3D Art Festival, one of the most prestigious art festivals in the world. He and other artists part of Dubai Canvas will be at Chalkfest this year, and you won't want to miss what their imaginations and talents come up with.
