Travel Alliance Partners (TAP) Donates $16,000 to Charity at Minneapolis Northwest Event

Minneapolis Northwest hosted another successful event last week: the Travel Alliance Partners’ (TAP) annual partner meeting. TAP is an organization of tour operators from throughout the US and Canada, and they’re just the kind of people a Destination Marketing Organization like ours hopes to host. Making a good impression on one of these tour companies could result in busloads of visitors to our area, and thus positive economic impact for the community. Minneapolis Northwest got to introduce the tour operators to top attractions and restaurants in the area, but everyone agreed that the best moment of the event came during a heart-warming lunch on Friday at the DoubleTree- Minneapolis North.
Taking a break from the business of the event, it was time for the presentation of ‘TAP Gives Back.’ Each year TAP donates a large sum to charity, and this year’s donation was going to an organization very near and dear to many members of TAP. Bundles of Love Charity, a non-profit founded by Mary Jo Prinsen, is an organization that partners with community service agencies in Minnesota to assist families in need by providing handmade diaper bags filled with handmade baby clothes, bedding and basic care items for newborns. Prinsen is the daughter of Joanne and Larry Larsen, active members of TAP and owners of EdVentures travel company.
TAP donated $16,000 to Bundles of Love Charity of this year, and Prinsen was honored to accept. The Larsens, in attendance at Friday’s lunch, were both touched to see TAP support Bundles of Love and incredibly proud of their daughter.
Prinsen never dreamed that her charity would get so big. What originated out of a love for creating handmade gifts has grown into an incredible force. The charity was founded in 1999, and started with just a few family and friends getting together to knit baby clothing. They’ve come a long way since then: in 2014 Bundles of Love supplied 3,400 families with newborn care packages! If you do the math, that’s a bundle every 2.5 hours given to a family in need!
This wouldn’t be possible without the help of a tremendous support system. Bundles of Love got 8 tons of fabric donated last year. 8 tons. And Prinsen now manages a volunteer list of over 1,000 people. Despite the large network of manpower and generous donations, there are still costs associated with creating newborn diaper bundles. It costs about $30 to make a bundle, and with TAP’s aid, Bundles of Love will be able help hundreds more families.
