What is Hope Chest for Breast Cancer?
While there are many amazing charities out that fund research to find a cure, Hope Chest for Breast Cancer provides support for Twin Cities women currently fighting breast cancer. The purpose of the Hope Chest is to provide the quickest access to help with the most urgent needs of local, financially challenged breast cancer patients. They provide women emergency funding for things like rent, utilities, meals, childcare, etc... Breast cancer takes a toll on the lives of women and families, beyond the disease, and Hope Chest helps to keep families intact.
Founded by Barbara Hensley who, after losing two sisters to breast cancer, became painfully aware of the financial challenges faced by patients experiencing breast cancer. The Hope Chest for Breast Cancer business model is a combination of a non-profit foundation and for-profit resale shops that generate income to support the emergency assistance programs. The resale shops sell high-end women’s clothing, accessories, furniture, and home décor, all of which are donated. There are currently 2 resale shops in Twin Cities: Orono and Bloomington.
Marketing Manager for The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, Jennie Zafft says the event sees many breast cancer survivors and their families each year, and a number of attendees who return year after year to support this cause. “It’s such a fun and positive atmosphere. It’s really moving to see a sea of pink take over The Shoppes for an evening,” says Zafft. Whether you’ve been touched by breast cancer or are looking for a great reason to go shopping, put on some pink and head to Girls Night Out!
