New Kid on the Block: Wicked Wort Brewing Company

We are spoiled living in a metro area that has so many breweries. My husband and I had an impromptu date night recently and took that opportunity to visit the newest kid on the block, Wicked Wort Brewing Company, located in Robbinsdale.

We are excited to welcome the lovely blogger, Social Sara 612 , to the Minneapolis Northwest blog! We sent Sara and her husband on a mission to explore Wicked Wort Brewing Company, a brewery that just celebrated their grand opening. Read about Sara's experience at the neighborhood's newest taproom!

We are spoiled living in a metro area that has so many breweries. My husband and I had an impromptu date night recently and took that opportunity to visit the newest kid on the block, Wicked Wort Brewing Company, located in Robbinsdale.

Wicked Wort has a big beautiful space with ample places to sit or stand. There is a stage and on the night we were there we were treated to a wonderful blues band. Since it’s a brewery and designed in that fashion, the space is open and can get loud—especially with music going. Regardless, it was still a pleasant experience and we were able to carry on our conversation during the music.

We started out with a flight of beer. A flight is a sampling of four different beers. Anytime I visit a brewery I love getting a flight as it’s a great way to get a feel of a brewery. I tried the Geno Stout, the JP Dooley Red Irish Ale, the Ape Hangers Pale Ale, and the Burly Eyed British Bitter. I also enjoyed a pint of the Upper Deck IPA.

I’m a big fan of IPAs and theirs did not disappoint. It was hoppy with a soft citrus tinge, a fun little burst of flavor. I also enjoyed the Geno Stout which was described as having a coffee roasted nutty flavor. It was smooth and perfectly balanced.

One thing about visiting breweries is that you never know what kind of food will be available, if anything at all. Many breweries work out arrangements to have food trucks available to patrons, but that’s never a guarantee. Then you have some breweries that have full menus, but those are the minority. Wicked Wort has found a nice little middle ground.

They have some snacks (popcorn, pretzels) available AND Heggies and Chanticlear pizzas. But that’s not the best part. They are located directly across the street from Pig Ate My Pizza and have menus to order from them. And, on the night we visited, Pig Ate My Pizza had an employee walking around wearing a big pig hat that you could wave down and order your pizza from. And then they delivered! A great system and wonderful partnership between two local businesses is always something to celebrate.

There were also menus available from other places—almost any style food is just a phone call away!

A Couple of Notes:

They are only open on Thursdays through Sundays.

This is a 21+ taproom. That means no kids (or anyone under 21), even during daytime hours.

When we visited, growler sales hadn’t started yet, but are “coming soon.”

There isn’t much information available on their website (yet) but their Facebook page is full of useful information and they are great at replying to questions.

Hours:
Thursdays: 4pm - 10pm
Fridays: 2:30pm - 12am
Saturdays: 12pm - 12am
Sundays: 11:30am - 9pm
