Ideas for Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is coming up! For those of you who is a mother, who has a mother or has a mother of your children, this is the time to dream up ideas to spend Mother’s day.

Finding fun things to do for Mother's Day does not necessarily involve spending large sums of money.  Here are a few ideas for budget-friendly celebrations:

Home-Styled and Homemade Exotic Staycation

Can’t afford to take your mother or the mother of your children to Paris for the weekend?  Not to worry, you can bring a taste of France to her anyway.  Go to your favorite local bakery (and here in Minneapolis Northwest, we have Patricks http://patricksbakerycafe.com/locations/arborlakes/ or Great Harvest Bread Co.) for delicious croisssants for an elegant breakfast in bed or pick up a loaf of baguette for a picnic lunch.  Whole Foods at Arbor Lakes stocks a great selection of exotic import cheeses as well as fresh fruits.  Ooh-lal-la-, C’est tres chic!

An Afternoon of Nostalgia and Garden Party

Invite multi-generations of mothers and daughters and serve afternoon tea in your own backyard.  What is better than to put a pretty table cloth on your newly hosed-down lawn table and laden it with mouth watering elegant homemade tea fare of wafer-thin cucumber finger sandwiches, scones with Devonshire cream and strawberry preserves accompanied by pots of Earl Grey in dainty fine bone china?  You can set out old photo albums and reminiscence milestone mother/daughter occasions.  So put on your vintage dress; grab a straw hat and indulge in an afternoon of nostalgia with your loved ones.

Don't feel like planning or making anything yourself?  No worries, we have a few suggestions too:

Women golfingDining Out

If you are looking to dine out, Rush Creek Golf Course offers a wonderful Mother’s day brunch starting from 10:00am.  It is a sumptuous buffet so do reserve your table before hand (http://www.rushcreek.com/holiday_brunches/).

Or, for a “girly” outing for generations of mothers and daughters, try The Mad Hatter Restaurant and Tea Room in Anoka, MN http://www.madhatteranoka.com/.

For those who is a mother, make sure you don’t forget to pamper yourself for the weekend.  First, start with a spa retreat. Massage Retreat and Spa in Maple Grove, MN, Tranquility Spa Salon, Taj Salon & Spa in Brooklyn park are all located in Minneapolis Northwest.  After you are all refreshed and relaxed, go head and treat yourself to a fine hair do at The Hair District https://www.thehairdistrict.com/maple-grove/ before joining your family for other festivities.

Although some may dismiss Mother’s Day is a “Hallmark” holiday, it does nevertheless remind us to celebrate the joy of motherhood and honor what our mothers did or are still doing for us!  How are you planning to celebrate Mother’s Day?
