Family Friendly Spring Break in Minneapolis Northwest: Unlimited Options, Unlimited Fun

IT’S HERE. Where are you going? What will you do? Do you have enough PTO saved up? WHAT WILL IT COST? Take the stress out of spring break. Relax, refresh, and rekindle that family bond in Minneapolis Northwest this spring! Between all our great hotels, incredible dining options, and family-friendly activities, we have the perfect, budget-friendly vacation your whole family will love.

For starters, where should you stay? Easy, a place your kids will LOVE: Holiday Inn & Suites in Maple Grove. Why? A little something called the VENETIAN WATERPARK! The weather won’t matter when you step into this 25,000 square foot water paradise. This will easily entertain your family for an entire day (if not the entire weekend). You should note that you do have to be a guest at the hotel in order to get in on the fun. But does it get any better? Well it is in the center of fantastic shopping and delicious dining!

If you’re wanting to get out a little bit on your vacation, we’ve got plenty of ideas for you. A fun activity that will get the creative juices flowing is The Paint Pub. They are offering a spring break week (March 28th-31st) with classes at 2pm. Pick which picture your kids will get most excited about (options being a peacock, under the sea, ice cream cones or a tropical sunset). It is great for all ages and they’ll love being able to bring home their masterpiece!

If you have younger children, you’ll definitely want to have a place that they can run around and let off steam. Pick your favorite:

  • The Maple Maze at the Maple Grove Community Center. It is so much fun for children 12 years old and younger. There is a rock wall, pogo sticks, tubes to crawl through, slides, a treehouse and more! There is even a separate area for toddlers to explore and learn. All kids must wear socks, children 1-12 years of age are $5 ($6 for non-residents), and toddlers under one are free.

  • Central Park in Maple Grove is still new and a hotspot for family fun! There is an awesome (and very large) playground that looks like a dream come true to kids of all ages (and their parents). Central Park has sweeping lawns, trails, pickleball courts, a splash pad, and more. And it’s FREE!

  • Elm Creek Park Reserve offers nature and learning (but the kind that kids don’t realize is happening). With miles of trails to explore, a gigantic playground, the Eastman Nature Center, programs for children (and adults), it is the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon! Are you tired of seeing the word ‘free’? Good, because Elm Creek Park Reserve and Eastman Nature Center are both free!

After all the excitement and running around, it’s nice to have some quiet activities lined up too. One of my favorites is the Hennepin County Library in Brooklyn Park. For starters, the selection is fantastic, so there is something for everyone in your family. There is family story time and an incredible children’s area with a variety of activities (one is this tube thing that I can’t adequately describe, but can assure you that it was extremely entertaining for me. And I’m a grown up. Usually.).

An often overlooked option is the movies! Maple Grove has an awesome AMC movie theater that offers a fun and entertaining (not to mention relaxing) way of spending a couple of hours.

And finally, let’s not overlook the incredible stores and restaurants in the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes. With one-of-a-kind options like Claddagh Irish Pub (it’s like you’re eating in a castle!), 3 Squares, Patrick’s, and beloved chains like P.F. Chang’s, Punch Pizza, Chanticlear Pizza, and even Golden Corral (kids love buffets, and parent love the prices), you’re bound to find something that even the pickiest eater will devour.

Looking for a unique and fun place to eat? You have to try the 50’s Grill in Brooklyn Center. Take a trip back in time and enjoy their 20+ year best-selling Chicken Pot Pie, delicious burgers and fries, chicken sandwiches, and the BEST malts of your life (and cakes and pies). It’s all home-cooked food and guaranteed to be a big hit with your family!
