Central Park Opens in Maple Grove

We are excited to say that the new Central Park in Maple Grove is now open! What used to be a gravel mining pit has transformed into a beautiful urban park in one of the most booming neighborhoods of Maple Grove.

Turning Nothing into Something

The City of Maple Grove has literally turned nothing into something. Part of the suburban sprawl out of Minneapolis in the 70's, Maple Grove did not even incorporate as a city until 1974. At the time there was no downtown, no truly defining features, but tons of undeveloped land, a rapidly growing population, and a world of opportunity. The City set their sights on a comprehensive plan to create a vibrant, walkable city center in the heart of Maple Grove. Fast forward to today, where Central Park is one piece of that puzzle. It is located just a couple blocks from the Arbor Lakes shopping & dining district, the Community Center, Government Center, Town Green, and public library, all of which have been built since 1997. The whole area is connected by a network of trails, successfully linking residents and visitors to all of Maple Grove's amenities.

A Destination Park

Complete with an LED illuminated splash pad, park building and gardens that could host weddings, a sweeping central lawn, dedicated pickleball courts, awesome playground, and the state’s first ice skating trail, Central Park will be a destination for metro residents and visitors. We're most excited about the ice skating trail which, unlike a traditional ice rink, is a winding 800 yd loop. Like the traditional rink though, the skating loop is refrigerated and maintained by a zamboni. This allows the trail to open earlier in the season and stay open longer each winter!

We attended the park’s ribbon cutting last week where officials unveiled the gardens, park building, fountain/ interactive splash pad, central lawn, sport courts, and walking trails. The playground will be completed this fall, and the ice skating trail will open early this winter! Guests can splash around in the fountains from 10am- 9pm daily, with the fountain lights running from 6pm-9pm.
