Blog: What’s New at the Minnesota Zoo?

Big Bugs, carousals and lynx kittens… oh my!  We visited our friends at the Minnesota Zoo to learn about some of the new things happening this summer. Even if you’ve been to the zoo several times, they always have new and exciting exhibits, attractions and animals to share with their loyal visitors. You don’t want to miss this summer’s new additions.

Summer Exhibit: Big Bugs!

Have you heard about the Zoo’s new summer exhibit?  Thirteen larger-than-life, animatronic bugs have invaded the Northern Trail.  With a live bug display and several interactive elements mixed throughout the exhibit, kids and adults alike will enjoy learning about a bug’s life and why they’re important.

Some move, some light up, some spray water; some are cute and some are creepy.  We created a quick video to show what they look like – check it out!

Big Bugs! is open now through Labor Day and is FREE with paid zoo admission.

Learn more about this exhibit on the Minnesota Zoo's website.

Did you know the Minnesota Zoo is adding a carousal to its list of family-fun attractions?  Construction has started on the new Conservation Carousal and is scheduled to open sometime next month (June 2014).

It’ll feature 56 hand-carved animals, including species found at the Minnesota Zoo (tiger, leopard, beaver, bison, and bobcat).  The carousel also includes rare and endangered species from around the world, including a lion, rhino, zebra and gorilla.  There are also ADA-accessible options.

Rides will be $2/person (if they are 42” or taller) otherwise FREE with a paid adult. All proceeds will support the zoo’s conservations program.

There are four new additions to the Minnesota Zoo family!  Four Canada lynx kittens were born a few weeks ago and are currently being cared for by their mom behind the scenes (can someone say ADOARBLE?).  They will more than likely make a public debut this August (2014) so keep an eye out for them along the Medtronic Minnesota Trail.

You can learn more about the Canada lynx on the Minnesota Zoo’s website.
