Celebrate our nation’s independence with more than just sparklers, BBQ’s and yard games this year; attend one of these July 4th themed events taking place around the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro.

1.  Taste of Minnesota | July 3rd – July 6th | Location: TBD Taste of Minnesota

Start your 4th of July weekend off early by having a taste of Minnesota, literally!  Bite into over 100 menu items such as porchetta egg rolls, sweet potato nachos and Cajun cheese curds. It wouldn’t be a July 4th celebration without an amazing fireworks show. Sit back and relax with three nights of fireworks starting at 10:20pm every night.

2. Fireworks Spectacular | July 3rd | Location: Canterbury Park Fireworks Spectacular | Canterbury Park

Watch the horses take to the track at Canterbury Park with a special 4PM post time, followed by a dance party with live music. Get there early to grab seats for one of the best firework displays around; it’s even choreographed with music. The show will begin once the sky darkens for ample firework viewing.

3. Military Family Week | June 30th – July 6th | Location: Minnesota ZooMilitary Family Week | Minnesota Zoo

July 4th wouldn’t be complete without saluting our troops! All military personnel (active, retired and civilian) receive free admission to the Minnesota Zoo during their Military Family Week. And that’s not all! Military personnel will also receive food and retail discounts within the zoo and their family members receive half-price admission.

4. Red, White and Boom! | July 3rd – July 4th | Location: Various Minneapolis Locations Red, White and Boom!

Celebrate America’s Independence Day at this two-day celebration along the downtown Minneapolis riverfront. Hosted by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Red, White and Boom features live music, great food, fun activities for the whole family, and we couldn’t forget about the grand finale – fireworks!

5. Independence Day Celebration | July 4th | Location: Fort Snelling Independence Day Celebration | Fort Snelling

Where else can you celebrate our nation’s independence like they did during the 1800s? Fort Snelling brings visitors back in time where they will hear cannon salutes, watch military dress parades, explore the history of freedom in America, and much more! Watch a “mock battle” on the Parade Ground, a common public activity during Independence Day celebrations in the 1800s.
