Blog: The Unusual and Rare: Ultimate Dinosaurs

They're big, they're exotic, and they're here.  The much anticipated Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibit opened at the Science Museum of Minnesota last weekend; it runs through August 24, 2014. When I was little I went through a dinosaur-loving stage (I like to thank Steven Spielberg’s movie Jurassic Park for shaping that part of my childhood).  Even though I didn’t grow up to become a Paleontologist, I still enjoy learning about dinosaurs when visiting museums across America.

In today’s world, where foodies roam the landscape, some believe the idea of the all-you-can-eat buffet is an archaic concept. However, after being able to try the revamped Sunday Brunch Buffet at Mystic Lake Casino, nothing could be further than the truth. The crew at Mystic Lake has done an outstanding job of creating a top notch presentation, exceptional fresh food options, and more for a great price.

Mystic Lake has always done an excellent job with their buffet, bringing a Vegas-style setting to Minnesota. You can’t go wrong with their Seafood Wednesdays, or their Prime-Rib on Friday and Saturday. The new Sunday Brunch, however, goes above-and-beyond. I was astounded by the quality and feel of the buffet.

For $19.95, guests receive bottomless champagne and/or mimosas, which is a different concept from what Mystic Lake has done in the past. Also, an appealing made-to-order Eggs Benedict station and classic made-to-order omelet station have received permanent homes along the buffet line. Add in a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar or, if younger, an outstanding Root Beer Float bar and you have a terrific variety of options to choose from.

Mystic Lake has also changed the serving dishes for the food they have on the buffet. Instead of your typical troughs, Mystic has introduced smaller and more sculptural dishes to serve their food. This is great for presentation, but also keeping the food fresh since it is replenished at a faster rate.

The already delightful dessert station has also gone through a revamp with more options to choose from, including the aforementioned build-your-own Root Beer Float bar. This only adds to the feel of a Vegas-style buffet offered in Minnesota.

The Sunday Champagne Brunch is open from 10:00am – 2:30pm and reservations are not accepted. If you are a Club Mystic Card holder, you receive a discount off the price.

And if you like casinos, you can also try Running Aces Harness Park or Grand Casino. Both are only a short drive from the Minneapolis Northwest area and offer great food and gambling options.

In addition, for other great area brunches offered periodically, try Rush Creek Golf Club, Edinburgh USA or the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest. Or, visit our restaurants page for an extensive list of options available.
