10 Valentine’s Date Ideas for a Romantic Holiday in Minneapolis Northwest

However you and your sweetheart like to celebrate your love – food, nature, cozy nights in – Minneapolis Northwest offers a variety of ways to spend time together for your Valentine’s date.

1. Enjoy a Valentine’s Dinner Special

We all know Valentine’s date night spending can add up, but it doesn’t have to break the bank! Check out the Valentine deals in Minneapolis Northwest for a way to treat yourself and be thrifty. A typical dinner special consists of a three-course meal plus wine, so you’ll have all bases covered in one stop! Granite City Food & Brewery in Maple Grove has specials Thursday through Saturday, and The Brooklyn at Edinburgh Golf Course in Brooklyn Park is offering specials both Friday and Saturday night. And Rock Elm Tavern in Maple Grove is partnering with the newly opened Sugar & Spice Sweetery, so after your meal you can order a treat or head next door for a full selection of Valentine sweets! Pro Tip: the popular Red Velvet cake is the perfect Valentine-themed treat!

2. Snuggle Up at a Cozy Hotel

Whether you’re looking for a vacation or a staycation, Minneapolis Northwest is the perfect spot to treat you and your loved one to a romantic getaway. Our many wonderful hotels provide a space for resting and reconnecting, and since Downtown Minneapolis is only minutes away, you’ll have plenty of options for date activities! Check out the new SpringHill Suites in Maple Grove, the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park, or the Embassy Suites in Brooklyn Center to find a retreat for your cozy night.

3. See a Theater Show

The theater scene around Minneapolis Northwest is one of the best in the country, so grab your date and head to a show! Yellow Tree Theatre in Osseo is owned by a local husband-and-wife team, and with a wine bar and concession area, you’ll have all you need to make your date night complete! Or, head to the Guthrie Theater in Downtown Minneapolis. Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a rom-com that’s perfect for Valentine’s and fun for everyone—even if Shakespeare isn’t really your thing. Pro tip: head to the famous Amber Room during intermission for a romantic view of the Mississippi River and St. Anthony Falls.

4. Have a Hoppy Holiday

Sometimes all you need for a perfect date night is a casual atmosphere and a good beer, so check out the Valentine’s events at the breweries in the area! Blue Wolf Brewing is hosting a Chocolate & Beer Pairing, so if that’s your love language, we’ve got you covered! Or, if you and your sweetheart want to get crafty, OMNI Brewing Co. is co-hosting a Valentine event with Color Me Mine, where you can design a stein (while enjoying a beer, of course!). Prost!

5. Chill Outside

What could be more romantic than a walk in the park with your love? Enjoy a snowshoe hike along the river, and then afterward, sip cocoa and craft a candle at Kroening Interpretive Center. Their Valentine’s Day Fireside Snowshoeing event takes place Feb. 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. You can also celebrate your love by treating your date to the Valentine’s Breakfast at Eastman Nature Center on Feb. 16. Snowshoe in the woods of Elm Creek Park, enjoy a bonfire, and take home some local honey!

6. Indulge in a Luxurious Drink Spot

If a big-city date night is your scene, you’re in luck—Downtown Minneapolis is only minutes away from Minneapolis Northwest! Take your date out for drinks at Prohibition, the bar at the top of the famous Foshay Tower. Enjoy a “Foshay Favorite” such as An Epiphany, a delightful mix of vodka, St. Germain, and sparkling wine, or the Truth Or Consequences, a flavorful jalapeno-mango-infused tequila with agave and Grand Marnier. The abundance of windows in the art-deco lounge offer a beautiful skyline view from the 27th floor on up. If you’re feeling adventurous, venture up even higher to the observation deck. The breathtaking view of Minneapolis will make the chill of a winter night worth it!

7. Make it a Skate Date

Maybe the chill doesn’t bother you and your boo—great! Lace up your skates and spend a day hand-in-hand at some of the area’s best ice-skating rinks. Be sure to check out the Central Park Ice Loop in Maple Grove, the only one of its kind in the state! The 800-foot loop is maintained by a Zamboni and is lit up at night, so you and your date can make it an evening activity too! Other skate spots include the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center or the Wells Fargo WinterSkate, open for the first time at CHS Field in Saint Paul.

8. Savor a Romantic Dinner

What says “Valentine’s Date Night” more than a romantic evening of fine dining? With the endless variety of fantastic restaurants in Minneapolis Northwest, you and your sweetheart will be sure to find a spot that sets the mood and satisfies your taste buds. Check out The Lotus Maple Grove for some of the best spring rolls you’ve ever eaten or enjoy delicious surf and turf at the steakhouse Pittsburgh Blue in Maple Grove. Lemon Grass Thai in Brooklyn Park has an incredible menu filled with curries, noodles, and everything in between, thanks to the owner and head chef Ann Ahmed, a James Beard Award Fellow. And if you’re looking for an atmosphere to cuddle up with your date, Brick & Bourbon Maple Grove is the coziest place to grab drinks—they’re especially known for their namesake bourbon menu.

9. Craft a Special Memory

Art is one of the best ways to express yourself, so take your partner on a craft date! Express your love at Color Me Mine in Maple Grove during their Valentine’s Date Night event. Just bring your date and a bottle of wine, and Color Me Mine will provide pottery and treats from Nothing Bundt Cakes! If the foodie in you wants to hone your craft, you and your sweetheart can try your hand at making latte art at Tiny Footprint Coffee in Brooklyn Center! They offer all kinds of classes to teach you and your love different coffee skills. For a really unique date, head over to Olfactory Scent Studio in Maple Grove and try your hand at candle-making! Pick out some cozy scents, like vanilla, sandalwood, or mulled cider, and you’ll have the perfect piece to set the mood for a very hygge date. Or, choose scents that have personal meaning for you and your S/O, and create your own signature scented candle to light up your Valentine’s Day.

10. Get Your Hearts Racing

Get your heart pumping in more ways than one at the Valentine’s Day TC 5K! Run the course around Lake Nokomis on Saturday, Feb. 8, and get backtags that declare your status as a couple. Maybe you’re “That Couple,” or you want everyone to know you’re “Taken.” If you’re feeling extra bold, sign up for the Cupid Undie Run on Feb. 15. where you can run a mile in your underwear to raise money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Valentine’s day than to help spread love.
