4 Options for Cinco de Mayo in Minneapolis Northwest

Grab your sombreros, Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner!

Just because we're technically in the suburbs doesn't mean you can't find great, Authentic Mexican food. In fact, if you've been listening to us at all over the past few months, you know that Minneapolis Northwest is actually a hotbed for delicious ethnic foods and this will come as no surprise. Here are a few options to celebrate:

Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant- Maple Grove

Chips and salsa with margaritas plate of various types of Mexican food

'Surprisingly authentic' is how you could sum up Teresa's reviews on Yelp. A glance through their yelp reviews show that people rave about their salsa, huge burritos and margaritas, and the availability of a couple authentic dishes that are harder to find in a Twin Cities Mexican restaurant: chilaquiles and alambres being two examples.

I like that Teresa’s offers a Make Your Own Combo—pick 2 or pick 3—it’s what got me to venture out beyond my typical taco salad (hey, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! But I’m sure most foodies would tell you that’s no way to get a true sense of a Mexican restaurant).

Pinedas Tacos- Plymouth

exterior of Mexican restaurant

Don’t be fooled by this restaurant’s outer appearance; yes Pineda Tacos looks like a hole in the wall. But if I’ve learned anything, this usually means the food is amazing. This place isn’t flashy, either in decoration or presentation of food, but it’s some of the most authentic Mexican food in all of Minneaoplis. They don't need to use gimmicks to disguise the quality of their food. I had some fantastic tacos here. The meats are juicy and flavorful, there’s a fresh salsa bar, prices are low, and service is fast and friendly. It does get super busy at lunch. Disclaimer: you won’t find a margarita here if that’s your goal for Cinco de Mayo, but I encourage you to try it anyways.

Fiesta Cancun- Brooklyn Park

Happy hour deals at Mexican restaurant fresh taco

If you’re looking for a fun atmosphere and some inspired cocktsils, Fiesta Cancun is your spot. Fast service, great flavors, fantastic happy hour. Margaritas are classic and you can order different sizes ranging from small, medium, large, or pitcher. They offer 16 different burritos. They have all day happy hour on Wednesdays too, if you want to stretch your Cinco de Mayo into a multi-day event.

Rusty Taco- Maple Grove

Two plates of various types of tacos

A local chain that exlusively serves mouth-watering street tacos. Rusty Taco is a fast-growing franchise. Your choices cover everything from classics to unique creations. They also championed all day breakfast before McDonalds did-- there are six different breakfast tacos to choose from all day everyday. Oh, and Rusty Taco is pet-friendly! You can bring your pup out on their patio, and they even offer dog treats on occasion.
