Mississippi Gardens

Brooklyn Park… a Wedding Destination?

Meet the venue that's turning Brooklyn Park into a wedding destination. Perched atop the Mississippi River bluffs, the brand new Mississippi Gardens combines quiet serenity with a beautiful state-of-the-art event space. Forget your tropical beach nuptials, everything you want and need for your big day is right here in Minneapolis Northwest.

A decade in the making, this premier wedding center is the brainchild of Jamie Leopold. It was always Jamie's dream to open a wedding event center. Life had some other plans though. Married to high school sweetheart and NHL defenseman, Jordan Leopold, Jamie was whisked away on a whirlwind hockey career that led them to Calgary, Buffalo, St. Louis, and more.

Jamie supported Jordan and their four children throughout this thirteen year journey. The life of a professional athlete is not always as glamourous as it sounds, Jamie sas: "last November Jordan was traded to Columbus from St. Louis right around the holidays. That was tough on our family. Instead of going with, the kids and I stayed in Minneapolis with my parents so that I could focus on starting my business." In a stroke of luck that winter, Jordan was traded to their hometown team: the Minnesota Wild. With his career winding down, it was now Jordan's turn to support Jamie's dream. Mississippi Gardens could finally become a reality.

Their new family buisness is just that: a family. For the Leopolds, family comes first and they want thei clients to be part of it. The Leopolds tell couples, "our kids won't be at your wedding, but there may be 1-4 kids running around here at any time throughout the process." Case in point: while we were visiting, Jordan was keeping their youngest daugther, Paisely, entertained with a newfound toy: the microphone.

What makes Mississippi Gardesn worthy as a wedding destination? Jaime says, "we fell in love with this site because of its simple beauty and riverfront location." The elegant new venue features an outdoor ceremony site, baked granite staircse leading down to the outdoor area (perfect for the bride's grand entrance), a gorgeous suspended deck for cocktail hour or reception, and a ballroom with floor length windowns offering panoramic views of the river.

More than the locaiton, it's the concept behind Mississippi Gardens that will make it a highly sought-after venue for years to come. Jamie's vision for Mississippi Gardens is to be a one-stop shop where couples can get all of their wedding needs taken care of at once. She was inspired by a beautiful destination wedding venue near Las Vegas, which includes a floral shop, salon & spa, photography studio, tuxedo/bridal boutique, catering, and entertainment, all on site. From the facility's front door (which looks more like a strip mall) you'd have no idea that one of Nevada's most beautiful wedding garden venues is in the backyard.

Bride & groom holding handsWith that as her inspiration, it was really important to Jamie to offer the most inclusive services possible. At Mississippi Gardens couples can hold both their ceremony and reception (the vast majority of clients book both). Their exclusive caterer, Mintahoe, operates a kitchen on site. They can also take care of the flowers and centerpieces with their preferred vendor, so clients don't need to bring in too much if they don't want to. A professional wedding planner is included with all bookings to ensure the event goes flawlessly.

This setup is perfect for people planning a wedding from out of town. "We've been happily surprised by the number of out-of-state brides who have booked with us so far; people from California, New York, and South Dakota. Many have family or friends in the Midwest who heard about the venue and recommended it."

For Jamie, the feeling of finally being settled into a permanent home is a little odd after having moved 7 times in the last ten years. However, with her dream finally taking off, there will be plenty to keep her busy in Minnesota.
